Kay's Very Tramautic Two Weeks!

So exactly two weeks ago today Kay was in the kitchen playing around and climbed up on a chair.  That in itself is not so out of the ordinary, but she soon found a way to knock the chair over with her on it.  I was downstairs at the time and heard the thump, but didn't think much of it.  Kids are always falling down.  Debbi was about to get in the shower.  Anyway, I got upstairs only to find Kay on the ground crying with a little blood on the ground.  I figured she hit her mouth or something.  I picked her up and saw that it was much more.  She had hit her head, right above her right eye and managed to split it open pretty good.

Now, I'm no expert, but I've had my share of serious cuts and knew that this one was pretty serious.  I yelled for Debbi to get out of the shower, and the kids to get ready, we were heading to the hospital.  Of course the kids were still in their pajama's and I was walking around in my underwear (yea, I know, too much information), but we managed to switch of Kay with one of us holding her at a time with a towel on her head.  We made it to the hospital safely and Debbi took Kay back.  About 45 minutes later Kay appeared with a few extra stitches... five to be exact.

Of course by the afternoon she was happy as a clam again and climbing on the chairs again.

A couple of days later she had an appointment at the doctor and the informed us she had a slight ear infection, so she started taking some antibiotics.  Last Friday they tried to take the stitches out (much the displeasure of Kay) but only took one out before they realized it needed a couple more days.  All this time Kay was mostly happy and just had a nice little band-aid on her head.  Here is a cute picture of her drawing with Bekah.

Monday rolled around and she got her stitches all out.  Everything seemed to be looking great, but then about Wednesday of this week she started developing a rash.  By Saturday we took her into the doctor again because it had pretty much covered her entire body.  Apparently Kay is allergic to the antibiotic they gave her. It is some type of penicillin thing, so we think it might be related to Debbi's allergy to penicillin that she discovered in High School.  Anyway, they told us to give her Benadryl and it should be cleared up in a couple of days.

I am home with Kay today while Deb, Joseph, and Bekah head off to church, but I think Kay is doing much better.  Here is a picture I just took.

As you can see, the scar is healing up nicely.  We put vitamin E on it every day along with some purpely clear-drying scar something something so hopefully someday she won't have anything on her at all.  You can still tell she is a little rosy in the cheeks and nose, but not too bad.

With all this bad stuff happening I'm starting to think she is my daughter.  Oh, I better go, she has gotten herself stuck in the ottoman footstool.  I better go and save her from her genes.

Debbi's Adventures Today

So today Joseph stayed home from school because of the snow.  (Sidenote:  they canceled school yesterday before it even started snowing...)  By the time I got home she was a little loopy from being with the kids all day.  Now I don't mean that in a bad way.  But she was all smiley and giggly.  Now tell me if that isn't strange... after an entire day with kids... would you be smiley and giggly?

Well, in any case, after dinner I took Joseph and Bekah and went and played hide and seek with them.  Always a lot of fun as the kids always tell you where they are hiding, but give up looking for you after 30 seconds.  Debbi joined up soon there after.  Joseph was up to count so we took off to hide.  I didn't find a good hiding spot very quick so Joseph found me and we went looking for Debbi.  Imagine my surprise when we go into Joseph's room and Joseph says "I see you mom" while pointing under the bed.  You have to remember that Debbi is almost 6 months pregnant.  How she even got under there is beyond me, let alone in 20 Joseph seconds (which is more like 15 seconds).  She got herself out and lo and behold... she was giggling AGAIN!

I was up next so I obediently went to count.  When I was done I found Bekah pretty quick (I'm in the Tub Dad!), but just for fun I opened the door to the closet in the hallway only to see my giggly wife fall out on the ground.  The closet in the hallway is not a coat closet, it is a linen closet.  She has mashed herself into the bottom of the closet.  And yes... she was giggling again.  This time she cried she was giggling so much.  I admit, I laughed quite a bit too... how do you do that when you are 6 months pregnant?  I'll never know.  I only know we have the coolest mom ever!

Independent Kids!

Debbi and I were up late on last Friday night and didn't really want to get up on Saturday morning.  Well, the kids didn't get that memo of course, so when 6:30-7:00 rolled around they came into our room like normal.  We told them they could get up (they always ask) but Mom and Dad were tired... we were going back to bed.  We got Kay and she snuggled up with us in bed (don't you just love cuddly kids).  Joseph and Bekah left us alone and about 45 minutes later they came in and informed us that breakfast was ready.  Needless to say we were a little nervous about what they had done, but excited they had taken the initiative.  Well, it turns out they just set the table and got out everything for cereal.  I'm glad it wasn't any worse, but it kind of make me proud.  We have always had pretty independent kids... Kay would just assume go and play in the street than follow us inside, and I vividly remember one of our neighbors bringing Joseph back to our house in Cedar when he was barely big enough to walk.  I'm glad to see that independence can be responsible too.

Project's Done

As we mentioned in our Christmas post, we made some things out of wood for the kids for Christmas.  Here are some pictures of the final stained products.

Visits from Texas

So it has been a while and now I need to play catch up again... yeah.  The most exciting news... which most of you already know about... was the visit of my Mom and Dad from Texas.  Within a couple of days they just decided to come out and visit!  I tried to keep it secret from Debbi... but we all know how hard it is to keep a secret from your spouse.  I finally gave in and she ran out and bought paint for our downstairs "guest" room (guest in in quotations because it is more like a guest closet, but hey, what do you do. :-) ).  Debbi did a fantastic job with the downstairs.  We are uploading a video right now that Debbi might put on her blog later, but here is a picture of the room.  We don't have any before pictures, but the room was REALLY in need of a make-over so we were glad for the motivation.

Anyway, they got into town on Friday the fifth and promptly informed us that Randi (my sister) and her little girl Mary were getting in later that night too!  Yeah!  We were so excited to have them.

I won't bore you with the details again of their stay.  You can read those on Randi's blog.  Here are a couple of pictures that haven't been shared yet.

This first is of Grandma in Joseph's closet with the kids.  We painted it with blackboard paint a while ago.  I walked in to hear giggling in the closet.  :-)  If you come and look there is now a JVD loves BVD in a big heart in the closet.  Some things never change.

Rebekah had tons of fun with Grandma!  She just loved having someone to play with!

I don't know how, but that is really all the pictures we got.  Somehow I guess we just got too caught up in enjoying having Grandpa, Grandma, Randi and Mary here!  Man... we'll just have to plan another trip sometime and make sure we take more pictures!  Thanks for coming out guys!  We love you!!
